We will
show the hilarious The Mad
Adventures of Rabbi Jacob as our
first film to lift you out of your
winter doldrums. You may wonder
how a movie about a New York Rabbi
and a hopeless French bigot could
be funny. Come to the March 10
showing and find out. Every review
we read used terms like
“side–splitter” and gave it 5
stars. We agree. You will too.

Our
second film, A Cantor’s Tale, will
be screened on April 7. This
documentary follows Chazzan Jack
Mendelson as he tours his old
Brooklyn neighborhood sharing his
love of chazzanut with anyone who
will lend an ear. Along the way
you will meet other Brooklyn
luminaries like Sandy Koufax, Alan
Dershowitz and Jackie Mason. A
film to enjoy, delis, bakeries,
and a voice that won’t quit. |

We will
close this series on April 28 with
a cinematic allegory of the
Israeli– Palestinian conflict, the
highly acclaimed Lemon Tree (Etz
Limon) Two women: one the wife of
a new Israeli Defense Minister;
the other, a Palestinian widow,
live on opposite sides of a lemon
grove, a fence, and many issues.
The grove is seen by the military
as a security threat and is
ordered cut down, but with
significant consequences on both
sides. |
